The Supersonic Invitational.

The Supersonic Invitational.

The Supersonic Invitational made its debut at Spoke Art Gallery in San Francisco, California in January of 2012, immediately distinguishing itself as a bold and ambitious experiment in contemporary curation. What began as a single exhibition quickly grew into a celebrated annual tradition, praised by critics and embraced by audiences for its daring vision and expansive scope.

The line for the Supersonic Invitational often stretched for several blocks. Many years, collectors would camp out to be first in line.

Over the course of the following decade, the Invitational became more than just an exhibition—it evolved into a vital cultural platform, one that illuminated the work of a new generation of artists at a pivotal moment in their careers. Many of these artists, first introduced through the Supersonic Invitational, have since gone on to achieve international recognition, their names and practices now woven into the fabric of the contemporary art world.

At the heart of the Invitational is curator Zach Tutor, whose discerning eye and distinctive approach to storytelling through curation have earned him wide acclaim. Tutor’s ability to identify not only individual talent but also the broader cultural currents shaping art today has positioned the Invitational as both a showcase and a harbinger of the future of contemporary art.

Today, the Supersonic Invitationals stand as landmark events in the history of 21st-century art—exhibitions that have not only reflected the changing landscape of creativity but have actively helped to shape it.

The Invitationals are still the only yearly exhibition any web-based art blog has ever produced.

A Brief History of Our Logo.

Our beloved Supersonic Skull is experiencing sublime delight by finally being able to see in three dimensions thanks to his sweet 3-D glasses.

The Original.

The Original.

Designed by artist Marco Vale, our original logo was inspired by Damien Hirst's "For the Love of God" and used as Zach's avatar years before Supersonic Art was even founded on the art forum, Apedogs.

Shock and Awe.

Shock and Awe.

Our second logo was designed by artist Matthew Woodson and featured the iconic skull wearing 3-D glasses. Believe it or not, this logo was inspired by a coffee spill resembling a skull.

Side Ops.

Brian Butler's epic design of the Supersonic Skull was meant for a t-shirt release. Maybe someday?

Designed by Risewise, this version of the logo appeared on various promotional items in 2022.

Our text logo was designed by It's A Living.
